Vibrant La Boca before heading home...

On good advice from Retha, I decided to visit La Boca on my last day in Buenos Aires. Managed to catch the right bus (there seem to be hundreds of them running all over, all the time!) & spent a couple of hours enjoying the carnival type vibe & colourful buildings.

This area, across the mouth of the Riachuelo river from the rest of BsAs, attracted a lot of Italian & Spanish immigrants in the late 1800s to work in the shipping industry. Leftover paint from the barges was later used on the workers' homes, giving the neighbourhood a thoroughly unique look & feel.

La Boca also has some (vaguely disputed) claim to being the place where the tango originated. Strolling along Caminito street you get to hear tango music & see dancers & street performers working their magic - tacky perhaps, but still cool too see :)

Before dashing to the airport, I went back to downtown BsAs & made a quick stop at Barbaro for lunch. The place was Packed but luckily I got a spot at the bar.  My last dose of this amazing city - hopefully I'll be able to get back fairly soon!

Muchas gracias Argentina - hasta luego, bonito país! :)
